SECOND QUARTER ENFORCEMENT EXERCISE OF NIPOST(CLRD)

 *THE SECOND (2ND) QUARTER ENFORCEMENT EXERCISE OF NIPOST ACT AND CLAMPDOWN OF ILLEGAL/UNLICENSED/UNREGISTERED,    COURIER AND LOGISTICS COMPANIES/ OPERATORS BEGINS NATIONWIDE* .

 
The Enforcement team of CLRD (NIPOST) stormed Maryland, Ikeja, and Victoria Island areas of Lagos state, arresting several illegal/unlicensed/unregisrered, Courier and Logistics Operators on Thursday 5th and Friday 6th July 2024.
 
Due to proliferation of private Postal, Express, Courier and Logistics Operators without license and with reckless abandonment for ethical standards, and professional conduct, there has been documented and reported cases of unethical sharp practices which includes but not limited to the following,
Price undercutting. Pilfering.
Broaching. 
Damages.
Loss and/or dumping of customers’ items. Poaching and subletting of operating licenses. Obtaining money under false pretence. No traceable office address.
No registered brand name.
Overloading and carriage of items above the stipulated 50 kg.” etc.
 
Therefore, in line with the NIPOST Act and extant laws, the enforcement exercise is aimed at sanitizing the industry and flushing out criminal elements that are perpetrating criminal activities in the sector.
 
The Nigeria Postal Service Act, Cap N127, laws of the Federation,2004, and the Courier and Logistics Operations Regulation 2024, provides that any postal, courier, express, delivery dispatch and logistics operators should obtain an operating license from NIPOST to avoid Enforcement/Clampdown and prosecution for illegal and unethical operations.
 
Recall that similar enforcement operation and clampdown exercise was successfully conducted in Kano State, kaduna State, Katsina State, Niger State, Abuja (FCT) Abia State, Delta State, Rivers State, Edo State, Kwara State, Ondo State, Ekiti State,Oyo State Ogun State, Lagos State etc.
 
The General Manager Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department (CLRD) advised the Nigerian public not to patronise unlicensed and unregistered operators as this has dire consequences. He stated that any interested private investor in the Courier and Logistics business should follow the due process by obtaining a grant of operating licenses from the Federal Government, (NIPOST) before venturing into the business.
