PRESS RELEASE/OFFICIAL STATEMENT BY THE GENERAL MANAGER, COURIER AND LOGISTICS REGULATORY DEPARTMENT

The ENFORCEMENT TEAM of the Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department (CLRD) NIPOST, will continue it's on-going clampdown Operations on unlicensed/illegal Courier, Express, Delivery, Dispatch and Logistics Operators nationwide

as stipulated in the statutory provisions of section 43(1, 2 and 3) NIPOST ACT, CAP 127, LFN 2004 and  Regulatory Operational Guidelines 2020.
 
Similar enforcement activities has been successfully conducted in, 
RIVERS STATE, 
EDO STATE, 
OGUN STATE, 
OYO STATE, 
LAGOS STATE,
(FCT) ABUJA to mention but a few this year. 
And over Five Hundred (500) unlicensed and illegal Courier and Logistics Operators has been apprehended, clamped down and prosecuted.
 
The Enforcement Team consists of officials of the Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department(CLRD) NIPOST, armed mobile police officers and men of the Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID), and gentlemen of the press.
 
The ENFORCEMENT/CLAMPDOWN OPERATION has come to stay because:
 
1. The Postal, Express, Courier and Logistics industry in Nigeria has been proliferated and infiltrated with so many unlicensed/ illegal Courier and Logistics Operators with reckless abandonment for ethical standard and professional conduct.
 
2. There exist unethical sharp practices, such as price undercutting, pilfering, broaching, damages, loss and dumping of customers items, poaching and subletting of operating licenses with mountain of public complaints about Customer's being duped or obtaining money from them under false pretences, no traceable office address nor registered brand name.
 
3. There abound the issue of public safety and security threats, due to carriage of illicit drugs and prohibited items like small arms and ammunition, guns, gold, monies, obscene items, etc.
 
4. Overloading and Carriage of Items above the stipulated FIFTY (50) KILOGRAMS, which has created and increased 
public disdain
towards this noble profession is worrisome.
 
It is a menace to the Postal industry and potrays a negative image to the Nigeran society at large. 
It is against global best practices and international conventions.
 
It is expedient for ANY interested private investors into the Postal, Express. Courier and Logistics business to follow the due process and obtain a grant of Operating Licenses from the federal government.
 
They are required and advised to obtain a grant of Operating Licence from NIPOST as stipulated by the extant laws or risk facing the full wrath of the law, and prosecution.
 
 
There are FOUR (4) DIFFERENT CATEGORIES OF OPERATING LICENSES.(i.e,)
 
1. STATE/SPECIAL SMES.
 
2. REGIONAL.
 
3. NATIONAL.
 
4. INTERNATIONAL.
 
Provision has been made for a Flexible Payment Plan for those who cannnot afford to pay for the OPERATING LICENSE at a stretch.
A special consideration has been given to the  INDEPENDENT/SOLO RIDERS SCHEME now.
 
As at 1st December 2022, over Four Hundred (400) STATE/SPECIAL SME’S Operating License has been approved by the PMG/CEO nationwide.
 
For the records;
 
Over Eight (8) REGIONAL OPERATING LICENSES granted.
 
Over Two Hundred (200) NATIONAL OPERATING LICENSES  approved.
 
Over Eight (8) INTERNATIONAL OPERATING LICENSES granted as well.
 
In conclusion, with all these highlights,
no one, or group of persons has an excuse for operating an illegal Courier and Logistics business nationwide.
