NIPOST TO MODERNIZE %50 OF ITS 1400 LOCATION BY 2027

The Postmaster-General of the Federation,
Ms Tola Odeyemi, at the "Postmaster General of Federation meets Nigeria-British Chamber of Commerce (NBCC) event held in Lagos yesterday 18th July 2024 disclosed that the Nigeria Postal Service (NIPOST) is going through a reform that would see 50% of its 1,400 offices modernized by 2027. 
 
 
The theme of the program is
*"Repositioning Nigeria's Logistics and Courier services sector for sustainable Growth".*
 
She informed the captain of industry, diverse stakeholders, and participants that Nigeria is currently pushing to revamp and upgrade logistics and courier processes to world-class standards for improved international mail exchange. 
 
“Work is ongoing on the Postal Reform Bill to separate the regulatory arm of NIPOST from the operation arm as many stakeholders are clamouring"
she said.
 
The Postmaster General stated that NIPOST is a national infrastructure, and the federal government is committed to making the Nigerian Postal Service (NIPOST) an affordable, last-mile delivery hub solution for goods and services.
 
However, she highlighted some of the challenges in the postal, express, delivery, dispatch, courier, and logistics sector in Nigeria.
This includes
poor road networks,
Infrastructural deficiencies, inadequate warehousing facilities,
vandalism, broaching,
pilfering, 
damaging, multiple taxation, duplication of regulatory roles, lack of self regulatory responsibility among private operators and poor compliance to the regulatory guidelines and existing extant laws as some of the hinderances and limiting factors to uptimizing the full potential of the logistics and courier sector in Nigeria.
 
The Postmaster General of the Federation suggested that a constant and strategic upgrade of regional infrastructure is crucial for a sustainable and competitive logistics and courier ecosystem. 
 
She revealed that, since she assumed office, some successes have been recorded, such as the optimization of logistic network,
review of affordable prices and clearance of backlog of postal packets.
The postal service has also imputed technology into its service and collaborated with other agencies and organizations to improve its last mile solution.
 
“NIPOST is not competing with private players but is there to complement their efforts as the last mile solution on delivery," said the Postmaster General of the Federation. Ms Tola Odeyemi at the epic event.
 
“We recently collaborated with the Small and Medium Enterprises Development Agency of Nigeria (SMEDAN) to provide special rates for Micro, Small and Medium Enterprises (MSMEs). 
 
“There is also the pilot partnership with the National Agency for the Control of AIDS (NACA) in Taraba and Abia states for bio-specimen collection, thereby building the nation’s health sector. 
 
“Let us work together to build a logistics sector that is efficient, reliable, secure, viable, innovative, and trusted, serving the needs of business and contributing to the inclusive growth of the nation’s economy.” 
 
The Postmaster General of the Federation was accompanied to the event by the General Manager, Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department (CLRD), and other management staff in Lagos. These include
The State Postal Manager (Mainland), The State Postal Manager (Island), General Managers; 
EMS, 
E-COMMERCE AND LOGISTICS, and BULKPOST SERVICES.
