NIPOST (CLRD) MEETS DIRECTORATE OF ROAD TRAFFIC SERVICE IN ABUJA FOR COLLABORATION ON ENFORCEMENT

The General Manager, Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department (CLRD) NIPOST, Mr Gideon Oludotun Shonde, engaged and had a strategic business meeting with the Director of Road Traffic Service, (RTS) Dr Bello Abdulhateef.

  
The purpose of the meeting was to  conclude  arrangements on the earlier engagements on how both parties will synergize in the area of organizing industrial/professional training program and joint enforcement activities against unlicensed/illegal Courier and Logistics Operators in (FCT) Abuja.
 
While highlighting the purpose of the visit, the General Manager(CLRD) informed the Director Abuja Road Traffic Service(VIO) that a similar professional training for dispatch riders and delivery drivers is on going in Lagos and it is in collaboration with Lagos State Ministry of Transportation (MOT). That the aim is to replicate same in Abuja and other states across the Federation.
Furthermore, collaboration in the area of enforcement is to jointly sanitize the industry from unscrupulous elements who potray a negative image of the Postal industry by disobeying traffic laws and indulging in ethical sharp practices.
 
That the licensed courier and logistics Operators are lamenting daily because of these unlicensed and Illegal Operators that are messing up the industry with undelivered items, loss of items, price undercutting and other nefarious activities.
He stated that many arrest have been made in Lagos, Benin, Abuja, Ibadan, Enugu, Ogun respectively for carriage of illicit drugs, small arms and ammunition in their delivery boxes.
 
While responding, the Director (RTS) welcomed and thanked the Postmaster General of the Federation/CEO (NIPOST), Dr Ismail Adebayo Adewusi for all his efforts to sanitize and professionalize the Postal industry nationwide. He opined that such collaboration is paramount and timely for the Road Traffic Service Abuja. Thus, he embrace the idea and expressed his willingness to collaborate with  CLRD (NIPOST).
 
According to him, it's a welcome development and it's exciting to have people who are already registered and willing to see this idea come into fruition.
Furthermore, in the stakeholders meeting and consultative forum held yesterday Tuesday 2nd August 2022 in Abuja, the Director Road Traffic Services (VIO) Abuja unveiled the plan to allow and commence enforcement of motorbikes with 200CC Engine capacity to operate  in the Federal Capital Territory (FCT) henceforth. He therefore gave a deadline period of grace till December 2022 for compliance by ALL operators.
 
In attendance at the meeting were, President of the  Abuja Riders Association,
Mrs Mariam Jogai Ogundeji, AGM (Legal Service and Compliance) and the State Regulatory Officer (Abuja), Mr Shobaloju Adebayo both of (CLRD) NIPOST. Also the Co-founder of Transxor limited,
 
Mr Seyi Adeola who briefly explained the SOLO Riders Scheme  and the flexible payment plan for Solo Riders. 
The MD/CEO of FAST LANE EXPRESS, Mrs Omife, the MD/CEO of ZENITH CAREX INTERNATIONAL, Mr Lekan Adelana both based in Federal Capital Territory (FCT) representing the licensed operators in Abuja
