 MASSIVE SHORT DOWN OF ILLEGAL/UNLICENSED/UNREGISTERED COURIER AND LOGISTICS OPERATORS IN ABUJA (FCT)

 
In line with the statutory provision of Section 43(1, 2 and 3), NIPOST ACT, CAP127, Laws of the Federation of Nigeria (LFN) 2004, and the Courier and Logistics Regulatory (OPERTIONAL) Guidelines 2024.
 
The Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department of NIPOST, on the directives of the Postmaster General of the Federation/CEO, Engr. Tola Odeyemi, visited and sealed among others, the following 
unregisrered/unlicensed/illegal operators in the Federal Capital Territory (FTC) Abuja and its environs today, Tuesday 30th July, 2024.
1. ALS Logistic Services. Suite 035 Rock of Ages Mall beside A.A. Rano filling station, 
Jabi, FCT. 
Abuja. (SEALED).
2. BCT Express. 
Suite 431, 3rd Floor. Rock of Ages Mall, Mafemi Crescent, Obafemi Awolowo Way, Utako Abuja. (SEALED)
3. Glowing Diamond Logistics. Plot 253 Ugoh crescent, 
Jabi Abuja. 
4. The Yellow Plate, No. 11 Kigali Street Wuse Zone 1, Abuja. 
 
The ENFORCEMENT TEAM consists of the Force Criminal Investigation Department(FCID), fully armed Police Officers from the Maitama Area Command FCT Abuja and gentlemen of the press.  
 
Also, a roadside and traffic light clampdown exercise led to many delivery motorbikes of some illegal courier and logistics operators were impounded as exhibits for prosecution in the court of law.
Addressing the journalists shortly after the clampdown exercise, the General Manager, Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department (CLRD), NIPOST, Mr. Gideon .O. Shonde gave the reasons for clampdown as follows.
Operating without obtaining a grant of license from the Postmaster General of the Federation as stipulated by the extant laws.
He expressed his disappointment that despite the consistent enlightenment program and public education activities by the Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department in recent times, many courier and logistics operator's nationwide openly engaged in unlicensed/illegal courier and logistics business without considering ethical standards and professional conduct.
 
He reiterated that the government will continue to arrest the ugly scenario and sanitize the courier and logistics sector in the country.
He emphasized that It is a crime against the state to operate in a space that is regulated without registration and licence.
The GM advised that any interested private investors in the courier and logistics business should follow the due process by obtaining a grant of operating licenses from the federal government.
