**REJIGGING NIPOST AND POLICE (FCID) SYNERGY SINCE 2001):** - GM (CLRD)

The General Manager, Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department (CLRD) NIPOST, Mr Gideon Oludotun Shonde and some management staff paid a courtesy visit and had a strategic business meeting with the newly deployed Assistant Inspector General (AIG) Force Criminal Investigation Department (FCID) Annex, Mr. Idowu Owohunwa in his office at Alagbon Ikoyi, Lagos Annexe yesterday, 6th March 2024. Incidentally, it fell to be the top management meeting day for the police.
The meeting provided an atmosphere to deliberate on how to further strengthen the existing collaboration and improve on the synergy in regulating and sanitizing the courier and logistics industry nationwide.
The GM (CLRD) warmly welcomed the recently appointed Assistant Inspector General of Police,
and appreciated the Criminal Investigation Department at large for their unwaivering support in the area of enforcement and prosecution over the years.
Gm expressed deep concern over the increasing number of illegal, unregistered and unlicensed Courier and Logistics Operators without brand names, obtaining money under false pretences, carriage of illicit drugs and prohibited items, non-delivery of items, unregistered operations with disregard for due process of obtain a grant of an operation license from NIPOST before operating the business.
He explains how the den of the illegal/unlicensed operators can be visited for a massive CLAMDOWN operation in Lagos, which some areas are mentioned.
In Responds, the AIG (FCID) promised to sustain the collaboration with CLRD(NIPOST) as the regulatory body in sanitizing the Postal sector and ensuring strict compliance with the extant laws and statutory provisions, and the regulatory guidelines of the Federal Government.
He promised to add more police officers to Nipost operations if needed. He advised on some of the security tips that can help out on the industry.
At the end of the successful strategic business meeting, both parties agreed to a symbiotic relationship by leveraging on digital technology to enhance compliance and in ensuring that these groups of identified unlicensed and unregistered operators turn a new leave and follow the due process.
