WAR AGAINST ILLEGAL, UNLICENSED AND UNREGISTERED COURIER OPERATORS NATIONWIDE

Following the directive and based on the approval of the Postmaster General of the Federation (NIPOST), Ms Tola Odeyemi, the
ENFORCEMENT TEAM of the Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department (CLRD), the Force Criminal Investigation Department Alagbon (FCID), armed police officers from Lagos command, and gentlemen of the press today, commenced the fourth (4th) quarter ENFORCEMENT OPERATION of the NIPOST ACT, CAP N127 LAWS OF THE FEDERATION nationwide.
 
Not less than thirty-two (32) illegal/unlicensed/unregistered couriers and logistic operators were arrested in Victoria Island an it's environs, Maryland, and its environs today, Wednesday 22nd November 2023.
 
The General Manager, Courier and Logistics Regulatory Department(CLRD), Mr G. 'Dotun Shonde, during the press briefing opined that the objective of the on going nationwide enforcement exercise is to sanitize the postal sector which has been infiltrated by quacks and unethical practices by unregistered, unlicensed and illegal operators nationwide.
 
The General Manager, established the existence of  unethical sharp practices, such as price undercutting, pilfering, broaching, damage, loss and dumping of items based on numerous customers complaints, poaching and subletting of operating licenses with mountain of public complaints about Customer's being duped or swindled by obtaining money from them under false pretenses, no traceable office address, no registered brand names to mention but a few by these unregistered/unlicensed/ illegal operators. 
 
Similarly, there are established cases of  overloading and carriages of items above the stipulated 50 KG, which has increased public disdain towards this noble profession, threatened the safety  of other road users and poses a security threat on fellow Nigerians.
These are quite worrisome, he said. 
 
Some of the apprehended illegal/unlicensed/unregistered operators were given the opportunity to know their criminal offence against the state, allow to ask questions before being handed over to the police for prosecution in line with the extant laws and the regulatory guidelines.
